Sarah DeSordi grew up in New Jersey training in various styles of dance. In 2021, she will graduate from Elon University with degrees in Dance Performance & Choreography, Exercise Science and Dance Science. Through her years at Elon, she has had the opportunity to perform in multiple guest artist, faculty, and student works. Sarah has also presented two of her own choreographed works, More and Milk’s Favorite Cookie in mainstage productions at Elon. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a career path that explores the intersection of performance, wellness and creative development.
A Note from the Artist:
As it was once said to me, “How liberating it is to pursue wholeness instead of perfection."
So easy is it to go through life putting one foot in front of the other, a reliable sense, guarantee. The idea leaves the urge to lead with my head through space’s cradle unsatisfied. I am inspired by connection, all the body is capable of, and the way in which we move through life with no choice but to do so wholly.
Movement is important; whether of our mind or body, it remains the vehicle through our reference of time. My work finds inspiration in the interaction of these vehicle’s and the many outlets of expression they offer. I stand to question purpose or the lack thereof it’s presence, finding appreciation everywhere I look.
I am interested in exploring the collaboration of empathy, human connection, and self-perception while learning how to approach the journey of defining “me” through narrative and movement. Drawing predominately from my attention to and awareness of details in my surroundings and self, I aim to pay forward with opportunities for others to define a sense of self and relation within my work.
