A Note from the Artist:

They say home is where the heart is, but for me, home is wherever I am dancing. As an artist, I aspire to share human experiences with my audience through movement that works to evoke emotion, thought and meaningful conversation. I want to inspire my dancers to connect human to human rather than performer to audience. I aim to expose the importance of topics people may find taboo. I am a firm believer that when we avoid speaking about sexism, misogyny, racism and other topics that make us uncomfortable, we are fueling the evil that lives within them.

I’m drawn to movement that makes people uncomfortable. Because my pieces are oftentimes influenced by topics people avoid talking about, I want the movement to acknowledge that discomfort. Avoidance as a result of discomfort leads only to a narrow, uninformed, and disconnected mind. I am heavily influenced by dancers who create new rules, break old ones along the way, and never let the word no hold them back from creating in a way that is true to them.

I’m not as interested in technical movement; in fact, I’m far more drawn to movement that mimics the human experience. The majority of my creation process stems from being in a room moving in a way that feels right, to music that I am drawn to in that moment. Additionally, many of my concepts are related to real-life experiences I’ve had. My main goal with my work is to shed light on issues that we feel more comfortable overlooking. I want my work to start a hard conversation about something we may otherwise avoid conversing about.
